Haunted Red Mill in Clinton: NJ's Prettiest Postcard Spends October Trying to Scare You

The Red Mill in Clinton might be the most photographed spot in New Jersey. Every October, an all-volunteer crew turns it into the Haunted Red Mill, and they've been at it since Labor Day.

The prettiest building in New Jersey spends every October trying to make you scream like a teakettle.

That's the Red Mill in Clinton. It's a red mill next to a waterfall, and 6abc says it's "often cited as the most photographed site in New Jersey." The rest of the year, people drive up just to point a phone at it. This building has heard "say cheese" so many times it knows its good side, and it's been holding the same smile for generations. In October, it finally drops the smile and starts making faces back.

Clinton's Haunted Red Mill just opened season number 35, this time under the theme "Lurking in the Shadows," running Friday and Saturday nights through Oct. 24, with mazes, a hayride, a vortex and spooky stretches inside the mill itself, according to the ticket page.
